Confession Time: My Biggest Career Regrets Unveiled

By  Ted Prodromou

I've been reminiscing a lot lately.

Maybe it's because summer is coming to an end.

By the way, what happened to summer?

Didn't we have our Memorial Day barbecue last weekend?

Maybe it's because this chapter of my career is coming to an end.

I'm moving from working 80% of the time and playing 20% to playing 80% and working 20%.

My income will actually increase as I work less.

Here's how...

My friend and mentor Brian Kurtz told me his idea of "retirement" is saying "no" to everything he doesn't want to do and saying "Hell YES" to what he loves.

I love that philosophy.

Focusing on what I love will let me help clients at a higher level and my heart will be totally into helping them.

For years, I took on projects I didn't love doing just to pay the bills.

It's exhausting.

Lowering my standards just to pay bills left me with many regrets.

I had no idea I had so many regrets until I read The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward by Daniel Pink.

The Power of Regret is our book of the month in the Mastermind Book Club.

Every month Tom Ruwitch and I read a book for you then we discuss it on the fourth Thursday of the month.

We all have regrets and would love a lot of mulligans in our lives.

The Power of Regret breaks down our regrets and shows us how our regrets are a powerful tool for self-improvement and growth.

Pink combines research in psychology, neuroscience, economics, and biology to demonstrate how understanding and embracing regret can lead to better decision-making, increased performance, and deeper meaning in life.
